ROSES, DRAGONS, AND ROUGE
The very first person who gave me a rose on Valentine’s Day was my father. He got out of the car and gave me a single, red rose then hugged me. I thought that why would I spend that Valentine’s Day searching for a prince when I have a King who had been (and will be) beside me for the rest of my life? Oha, so cheesy. I missed my father, bakit ba?
Actually, I received a lot of VDay gifts from friends this week… on facebook. It says ‘You received a Valentine’s Day gift from insert name here. Send a gift back!’ No real thing? *sigh*
Yesterday was Valentine’s Day again and just like for the past 16 years, I spent it alone. But not really alone as in damsel-without-a-prince kind of alone. I spent the day of hearts (and also the birthday of Kris Aquino, Heart Evangelista and John Prats too. Just sharing.) together with my beloved PS. Actually, I only spent it with Chan, Fhaye, Elmer, Ebony and Pato. Even though we were not complete, we had a very exciting fieldtrip at the Bell Church in La Trinidad.
We looked like tourists-slash-models when we arrived at the Church. We were awed by the lion dance that was performed at the Church ground and we also spent the time exploring the pagodas and the main church itself. Of course, being cameras whores (and we are not ashamed to admit it), we took many pictures of ourselves (take note of the word MANY) that we almost forgot it was closing time. Thank you Ebony for your beautiful DSLR. Amen.
So what is with the Bell Church thing? I am sure you are wondering what the hell this Bell Church that I’m talking about. A church full of bells? A church shaped like a bell? No and no. The Bell Church is actually a church that has an Asian architecture, specifically, a Chinese architecture. The church are filled with many structures so uniquely Chinese just like pagodas, Chinese characters and statues. The people who go to that church are mostly Chinese, and the religion that they have is actually a mixture of Confucianism, Daoism, Buddhism, and even Christianity. Thank you Sir Ang for that very helpful information. Since we will not only be celebrating VDay but also the Chinese New Year, we went to the Bell Church to celebrate the coming of the Metal Tiger. At least, we want to experience a Chinese festival in a Chinese setting. If you want to have a real Chinese experience too this Chinese new year (or whatever day you like), go to the Bell Church. Paki sabi na lang sa taxi na ‘Bell Church’. Di ko alam kung saan exactly yun eh . P60 lang naman from the city proper to the Church. :P
Anyway, Happy Valentine’s Day and a Happy New Year everyone! All the single ladies, unite! And single men too. (Ika nga ni Cristian Carl Suller, ‘every single day’ sa tono ng Single Ladies. Namimiss ko na tuloy si Sir! I hope you’re enjoying Thailand!)
And I want to say ROAR. Since we welcomed the year with the Metal Tiger, at least we should greet it with its own language. Roar means happy New Year everyone, and may you have a prosperous year ahead. Oha, one word can mean a lot of things. Kung Hei Fat Choi! And may Cupid help you find your knight or your own damsel. ;) I know, I know, I’m making a big deal out of it. I love VDay and Chinese New Year! It is so… red.
Tikoy, anyone? Btw, Cupid is mine. At least, I want him to be.
